Shawn Johnson East and Andrew East’s relationship is worthy of an Olympic medal.

The athletic couple met through Andrew’s brother Guy East when the gymnast was in London to work as a sports commentator for the 2012 Olympics, in which Guy was competing in the cycling events.

“[Guy] starts to go on this tangent about this little brother of his and how I have to meet him,” Johnson East recalled in a 2018 vlog, noting Guy wanted to play matchmaker because the gymnast was applying to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, where Andrew was a student.

Andrew eventually flew to Los Angeles to meet Johnson East, who was competing on Dancing With the Stars season 15, for a first date. Three years later, Andrew proposed. They wed in 2016 before welcoming three children.
